I have been watching Jonathan Miller's Atheism Tapes. Most of them are discussions with people I find interesting. But then comes this Cambridge theologian and I am as baffled as I always am with theologians. I think part of the trouble may be Miller's handling of the interview and not getting to the right questions. Ironically the theologian, Turner, accuses atheists of not considering the right question, i.e. why is there anything at all? He seems to think that a creator is an obvious response to this question. And then he talks about a loving god without ever giving any reason for getting there, mentioning the problem of evil and essentially brushing it aside. I am left wondering why Miller bothered with him or found him interesting. he seems to come across as a routine Oxbridge theologian, full of piss and wind.
Please tell me what I am missing here and what to consider.
